Maine’s West Branch Hunts
You will be heading north of Maine’s Moosehead Lake.

Please Note: When hunting in our West Branch region, you will travel directly there. Do Not go to Charleston, Sebec or Ebeemee. Take Route 23 in Dexter to Route 6/15 in Guilford, turn left and then follow Route 6/15 to Rockwood (See Below). From the Bangor Airport, go to Dover-Foxcroft on Route 15 (see below), then to Guilford on Route 6/15, Greenville and then Rockwood.
- Driving into Maine – From the Maine Turnpike (Interstate 95), take the Newport exit #157 and take Route 7 to Dexter. In Dexter, take Route 23 to Route 6/15 in Guilford, then follow Route 6/15 to Greenville where you can buy gas, food, supplies and a hunting license at the Indian Hill Trading Post. Turn left in Greenville and follow Route 6/15 to Rockwood. Continue in Rockwood to cross the Moose River bridge (Lat 45.679065/Long -69.77707), then bear right after the bridge. Follow road for about 22 miles. At the stop sign turn left, and drive 5.2 miles to our West Branch camp. Be sure to stop at the North Maine Woods checkpoint to let them know you will be going hunting at Foggy Mountain. See Map showing additional details about the route beyond Rockwood.
- Flying via Bangor International Airport – All major car rentals are available at the airport. Driving from the airport, turn left at the end of the airport exit road onto Union Street. Take a right at the 1st light (Griffin Road) and go to 3rd light. Turn left and follow Route 15 to Dover-Foxcroft. In Dover-Foxcroft, continue on Route 6/15 westward to Guilford, then follow to Route 6/16 to Greenville where you can buy gas, food, supplies and a hunting license at the Indian Hill Trading Post. Turn left in Greenville and follow Route 6/15 to Rockwood. Continue in Rockwood to cross the Moose River bridge (Lat 45.679065/Long -69.77707), then bear right after the bridge. Follow road for about 22 miles. At the stop sign turn left, and drive 5.2 miles to our West Branch camp. - Flying via Portland International Jetport – All major car rentals are available at the airport. Driving from the airport, proceed onto the Maine Turnpike (Interstate 95) at the end of the airport exit road. From the Maine Turnpike (Interstate 95), take the Newport exit #157 and follow Route 7 to Dexter. Turn left at Dexter, onto Route 23, and proceed to Sangerville/Guilford. Where Route 23 intersects Route 6/15, turn left onto Route 6/15. Follow Route 6/15 to Greenville where you can buy gas, food, supplies and a hunting license at the Indian Hill Trading Post. Turn left in Greenville and follow Route 6/15 to Rockwood. Continue in Rockwood to cross the Moose River bridge (Lat 45.679065/Long -69.77707), then bear right after the bridge. - Kittery Trading Post Side Trip – The Kittery Trading Post is a sportsman’s favorite and a “must see” as you drive to Maine. The Trading Post is located in Kittery just off Interstate 95 as you enter Maine from New Hampshire. After crossing the bridge from New Hampshire, take Exit 3 onto US Route 1 and the Kittery outlet malls. You won’t miss the Trading Post one-half mile on your left. Get right back onto I-95 north when you’re done shopping. Hunting licenses are available.
- Cabela’s Side Trip – Cabela’s new Maine store is conveniently located in Scarborough immediately off Interstate 95 at Exit 42 (mile 42). You won’t miss the store on your right as you exit.
- LL Bean Side Trip – The famous LL Beans is located in Freeport just off Interstate 295. Open 24/7. When driving from points south, exit from the Maine Turnpike onto Interstate 295 at South Portland, drive through Portland to Freeport, about 15 miles. From Portland Jetport, get onto the Maine Turnpike northbound, then in about five miles, exit onto the connector to I-295. From Beans, follow I-295 north until it merges back into Interstate 95 south of Augusta, then proceed toward Newport. Hunting licenses are available in the hunting and fishing building.
